NEW VERSE

A new verse — Spoken in riddles by Savathûn — A liar —

  1. I walk in a city made of delicate hopes. Here they hang lanterns of purple and gold to shine light on their fears. But the light flickers and wanes. It is only bright enough to expose how fragile they are, how brittle. It does not chase away the dark.
  1. I hear my name everywhere. Whispered in a side street. Muttered over a hot plate of food. Cursed over a war table. The sound is nourishment.
  1. I am more than I ever was, and less than I will ever be. I am many and none. I'm a man who sits alone in a cavernous office, counting my failures. I'm a woman looking at a silent god. I'm a lost soul on a cold moon. I'm a broken mirror of a man who tries to steer the ship. I'm a familiar stranger, flitting between them all, hiding my face.
  1. I'm none of those things. I'm a lie.
  1. The people here are small krill dwarfed by the enormity of oblivion. They look for clues that their lives are worth something. They want a world where the wicked will be punished and the virtuous rewarded.
  1. I know that world doesn't exist —
  1. — And in that knowledge, I'm free.
