Haunting in Haven?/Rising
Transcript
Wolf receives a series of messages from a Haven resident.
Haven Resident: Seeking Exorcist—HIGH PAY!
Haven Resident: We've had it with those eerie whispers… It's something wicked messing with us! It has to be!
Haven Resident: If you have any ideas about how to exorcise evil spirits, please come to me. There's a reward in it for you, crowdfunded by the residents of Haven's bazaar. I'm sure it won't disappoint.
Haven Resident: Address: The first shop at the south entrance of the Bazaar.
Wolf arrives at the bazaar.
Wolf: It's so peaceful here. Not a ghost in sight—well, aside from you, Zev.
Wolf goes to the mentioned shop and speaks with the owner.
Haven Resident: Ah! Here about the ad I put out, are you?
Haven Resident: As my request said, we've been hearing some strange noises around the place recently.
Haven Resident: They sound like these…chaotic, creepy whispers.
Haven Resident: Completely unintelligible, and I don't think I could mimic them if I tried.
Wolf: And you've been hearing them frequently?
Haven Resident: Sure have! It happens all the time.
Haven Resident: Makes it nearly impossible to focus on work, you know?
Haven Resident: There's some kind of evil haunting this place. What else could it possibly be?
Wolf: Haven's security's as tight as it comes, though. I doubt anything "evil" would even make it past the front gate.
Haven Resident: But then how do you explain all the weird whispers? And it's not just me hearing them!
Wolf: Don't worry, I'll look into it. Who else has heard the noises?
Haven Resident: A better question is, who hasn't? Just walk around the bazaar. Everyone's talking about it.
Wolf overhears multiple conversations within the bazaar.
Fred: I'm telling you, someone's raising one strange pet.
Fred: I spotted this bizarro shadow when I was passing by the gardens.
Fred: It was about knee-high and kept making these threatening gestures.
Fred: Weird stuff, I tell you.
Allen: You'd best stay away from the garden these days.
Wade: Don't tell me you really buy that haunting nonsense?
Allen: I didn't at first. But then I heard some odd noises last night…
Allen: If you think I'm lying…
Allen: My wife'll vouch for me! It wasn't my imagination, I swear!
Wade: So…no more visiting the garden?
Wade: Ugh, I just want a break, not this weird ghost stuff.
Allison: I saw a creepy shadow in the garden last night!
Allison: Even weirder is—it looked like a person, but sounded like a bug!
Lani: For real? You'd better not try to scare me…
Wolf: Alright, we've got our lead. Let's see what's up at the garden.
On the way to the garden, two small creatures scurry across the path towards it.
Wolf: What was that?
Zev: Might be the source of this "haunting"—let's catch up with it!
Wolf overhears more residents while on their way to the garden.
Ross: Have you seen those weird little monsters recently?
Ross: They give me the creeps!
Jessica: Who was it?! Who ate my tomatoes?!
Jessica: It took me three years to grow just two of them! THREE YEARS!
Wolf arrives at the garden.
Zev: Shh… Hear that?
Attal: Sss…hiss…pss… Nope, that's not right…
Attal: Tss…tsssu? sighs This is so hard to pronounce…
Wolf approaches Attal.
Attal: Huh? Wolf?
Wolf: So…you're the one who's been making these strange noises everyone's talking about?
Attal: What? Strange noises… Oh, do you mean the Eliksni's language? I've been studying it!
Attal: The pronunciation is indeed quite different… Is it bothering people?
Wolf: More like confusing them. Your practice is the talk of the town—and the source of some…interesting theories.
Wolf: Anyway, what are you learning it for?
Attal: Well, some conflicts between us and the Eliksni might be resolved peacefully if only we could understand each other.
Attal: But with the language barrier in place…we're left with no choice but to raise our weapons.
Attal: I'm sure being able to speak the language will come in handy if we encounter more open-minded Eliksni.
Attal: I'm teaching some of their children our language, so, might as well learn theirs too, right?
Wolf: What—did I hear that right? Eliksni children?
Wolf: Where'd they come from?
Attal: It's…a long story. They—
Swift: Ahem. I hate to interrupt your conversation, my lady, but it's almost time for a lesson.
Attal: Oh-lala! I almost forgot… Bye, Wolf. I have to go teach the kids.
Attal: Stop by the Haven Bonfire when you have the time. I'll introduce you!
Attal: They're so cute, and well-behaved, too! I'm sure you'll like them!
Attal leaves.
Wolf: But—! … sighs
Wolf: So she's not only learning an alien language, but also teaching ours to some Fallen kids?
Zev: I can hardly believe it either!
Wolf: And to think she's "the Reaper's" partner…
Zev: Yeah… Opposites attract, I guess?
Wolf: How about we take Attal up on her offer and swing by?
Wolf: I've gotta see this to believe it.
Zev: Speaking of which, those strange shadows people were talking about must have been the children Attal's looking after.
Zev: Let's tell the residents later.
