Ash & Iron: Initialize is the introductory Story Mission of the Ash & Iron update. The Tower has been breached by the Conductor's forces — defend Vanguard Headquarters and uncover Maya Sundaresh's latest plot.

(Mission Begins)

Ana Bray: Tch. Choral Vex, more of Maya's goons. They're taking salvaged FOTC tech.

Saint-14: Worse. They're already in the Tower. Only night watch available to respond.

Ikora: I'm afraid that's correct. Maya's tactics are evolving. I'm in the EDZ now, investigating a lead that might explain things. But I'll need you to defend the Tower while I get some answers.

The Guardian investigates the Vex incursion.

Ana Bray: Those Vex are tossing our caches onto multiple transmat routes out of the City.

Saint-14: Golden Age salvage?

The Guardian destroys the Vex nodes.

Ana Bray: With Rasputin gone, scout teams have been searching for artifacts to reinforce City defenses. I've been collecting Warmind hardware, pointing it at gaps in our security. We should've been able to see this coming…

The Guardian finds their way to the Hangar.

Ana Bray: They completely blind-sided us. Warsat surveillance is gone, but how did they get this far without an alert?

The Guardian enters the Hangar.

Saint-14: It's a swarm unit. Make every shot count, my friend.

The Guardian destroys the Vex nodes in the Hangar.

Ana Bray: I doubt this is over. I checked the caches, the Vex were stealing Warmind tech from us.

The Guardian returns to the Courtyard as a group of Cabal arrive.

Ana Bray: This unit has a callsign dating back to the Red War — Ghaul's elite. They were here the day the Tower fell.

Saint-14: They are wearing devices… The Yoke of Control! Maya Sundaresh, the Conductor, controls this Legion!

Ana Bray: That's impossible… Something isn't right.

The Guardian defeats the Red Legion soldiers.

Saint-14: Vex working in coordination with the Red Legion. Maya's influence grows with the day.

Ana Bray: She has access to the entire Vex network. She must have found another timeline where the Red Legion are still around and yanked them into ours.

The Guardian destroys Kleftis, Archeodaemon.

Ikora: Good work. I knew the City could count on you.

Ana Bray: This was just a smash and grab… what is Maya looking for?

Saint-14: They want what the Conductor has always wanted — to usher a new Golden Age of her own design. Now with the Legion and the Vex. I am no friend of the Red Legion, though I pity them to come under Maya's thrall.
